Internships

Community Legal Aid (CLA) has academic year (fall and spring semester) as well as summer internship opportunities for law and undergraduate students.  Summer interns usually work full time for a minimum of 10 weeks.  Academic year interns are expected to work a minimum of 10 hours per week, to be arranged according to their class schedules, but are welcome to work more hours or full time for the semester if available to do so.

CLA also encourages students participating in a co-op program to consider working with us for a semester or school year.

CLA is no longer looking for interns for Summer 2023. To apply for a Fall 2023 Internship, submit this application along with your resume and cover letter to Ingrid Liu, Human Resources Assistant, at iliu@cla-ma.org.

Law student interns assist CLA attorneys in representing clients.  With appropriate supervision, interns have the opportunity to interact with clients and may conduct initial client interviews and attend client meetings, hearings, trials, and administrative proceedings.  Assignments will include legal research, drafting legal documents and memoranda, and factual investigation.  Interns also participate in staff meetings and are responsible for some administrative duties.

Law student interns are assigned to one of CLA’s substantive practice areas.  Applicants should express in their cover letter a preference for the area of law in which they would like to work.

We encourage students that are selected for internships with CLA to secure funding through law school public interest scholarships, work-study options, the Massachusetts Bar Foundation Internship stipends, or other funding sources.
