Fair Housing Project

CLA’s core housing work includes helping tenants to fight back against illegal housing discrimination. The Worcester Fair Housing Project (WFHP) and the Springfield Fair Housing Project are HUD funded partnerships between CLA and the local government. These projects have helped clients with a variety of fair housing issues, including racial harassment, refusal to rent due to family status, refusal to remove lead paint, and discrimination based on disability. In addition to litigation, the Fair Housing Projects conduct educational workshops on fair housing laws for tenant groups, social service providers, landlords, and other community members. The Projects also trains civil rights investigators to “test” whether housing providers are unlawfully discriminating against tenants and applicants for housing. In Western Mass., CLA attorneys have successfully filed complaints against housing authorities and other landlords who have broken the law by harassing or trying to evict tenants because of their disabilities or their diverse ethnic and racial backgrounds.

Report housing discrimination in Hampden or Worcester County.
